I really don't know where to post this but here, if you can, you might want to put the chat box somewhere a bit easier to see, like on the side, and let it scroll down with the page. Not use to chat boxes so, I don't know proper places to put it, but it seems to be easily forgot down there...poor thing.

Not use to chat boxes so, I don't know proper places to put it, but it seems to be easily forgot down there...poor thing. I can list a few reasons why I think the shoutbox works better at the bottoms than on the side/at the top (aside from it being pretty difficult to move from its current position): - Me and pecan have been on a site with a similar chatbox. It resides at the top of the index page on the forum, and that's where most of the activity comes from. Because of this, the forum of that site is completely dead, with very few new topics or posts being created. This is mostly due to the shoutbox's location and usability. We'd rather have a more active forum than a more active shoutbox.
- As it currently stands, the format of the shoutbox doesn't translate well to put it on the side of the forum. It would have to be heavily edited, both format-wise and usability-wise. Right now, I'm only beginning to learn how to do things on this forum, so this would take a while regardless. This site has just been created, but we are doing our best to figure how to do everything.
- The shoutbox being at the bottom means it's seen after the forum. Everything that can be done there can be done through other things like Skype. We'd rather have an active Skype community for this website where we can private message members, have video/voice conversations and basically have an overall more enjoyable instant messaging experience. The shoutbox is nice, but it's not really comparable to VoIP clients.
We're still weighing our options with it, but any changes to it will happen slowly as we learn how to do things.

I get your points, but the main problem is that, since it is at the bottom, people will most likely ignore it or forget that it is there. Maybe, make a chat room instead then? I don't know, it is your Forum so you get to do what you want with it, but the chatbox being at the bottom won't make it the most used thing. I even sat there for like 20 minutes for someone to reply to my comment.

We're still trying to figure out how exactly to move the shoutbox. It's not an easy ordeal, there is a lot of script editing and HTML coding we're going to have to do to make it work. However, we're still deciding whether we want to do it or not. Me and pecan want to see how the site evolves, since it's so new, but we'd rather have active forums than an active shoutbox. Preferably both, but we've witnessed a chatbox type set up that has ruined forum activity.

If you want the Chatbox to be the second choice of conversation, you might just want to make a single room chat room, where everyone is talking over each other. It'll only be used for simple chat, and not actual forum chat. Things like talking to a friend, or getting someone's gamertag. Although that should wait for when the forum gets heavily populated, and the chat will be too packed to actually very a long conversation in. It'll also keep the forums pretty clean of pointless fun-stupid comments.

Yeah, google is pretty useful for that! Any other suggestions you pretty peons have to offer? As of right now, none from me. I'll keep surfing the site to see if I can find anything I can offer ideas for...I really should take a class in Web Design, I will helping build websites, well in this case, a Forum.
