For a premiere the episodes were solid.

I like the reintroducing (a little bit of backtracking) with some of the characters. Mako isn't so much of a douche as now he gets better portrayed as the character. Instead of being confusing and seemingly misguided with his attachment to Korra while he was still with Korra, while hurting his brother in the process. Now he seems more mature and better used. I like that.

Korra seems the same as she was midseason in book one. She is hasty, impatient, and itching for a fight. It seems that the lessons she 'learned' with Tenzen didn't sink in all that much.

We get to see more of Tenzen and his family. I like that he is so different from his brother and sister. His children especially Jinora will probably factor into the plot which I'm excited for.

I feel like Brolin and Asami still haven't been given solid roles... but I'm hopeful that will eventually happen. Remember Sokka really didn't have more than a comedic role until Book 2 either.

I think that the episode set up what is going to happen in the season well. I was really happy with the way the plot kept surprising us at every turn. I hope to see more of that with the unfolding civil war between Water Tribes.

I hope to see a contrast between Aang and Korra. In Aang's training as an avatar he had to learn how to bend. But being an avatar, being a leader, being willing to take that responsibility, he always had. He was naturally patient, calm, and a leader. Korra is naturally a leader, but she doesn't have the same innate qualities to be like Aang was. I feel that is where her character needs to grow the greatest. I'm excited to see her grow into an adult. She was thrust into her position at an older age than Aang. Aang was sort of 'born' older, and more suited to take that responsibility on his own.

Aang brought people together and ultimately, that was his legacy. Korra seems to think that the way to becoming a powerful Avatar, is to be a powerful bender.

TL;DR: Solid episode. Good slight modifications to characters like Mako and Tenzen's family. Need more development from Brolin/Asami. Hopeful that Korra has a maturity arc for her character to grow into her own, as she learns what it truly means to be the Avatar.
